Kim Huong Vietnamese and Chinese Restaurant is a straightforward, no-frills spot tucked on E McFadden Ave in Tustin, where the focus is really on authentic, affordable Vietnamese comfort food. The atmosphere is humble and unpretentious—think modest seating with enough room to accommodate different needs, including wheelchair access, reflecting its neighborhood diner feel rather than something polished or trendy.

This place works best for casual lunches or early dinners when you want something satisfying without fuss. The dining room fills with locals, many coming in for hearty bowls of pho or spicy bún bò Huế, and it caters well to those who appreciate traditional Vietnamese noodle soups and street food classics. The owner’s hands-on approach and friendly service adds a welcoming dimension, making it feel more like a community kitchen than a commercial restaurant.

The menu is a solid reflection of Vietnamese staples like egg rolls (notably priced below a dollar each), flavorful bún riêu, broken rice plates with pork and egg, and the iced coffee that seems quite popular for a lunchtime pick-me-up. Portions lean generous, with plenty of fresh bean sprouts and greens served alongside the soups, which helps keep the flavors vibrant and balanced instead of overly salty or heavy.

Parking is somewhat limited around the building, so grabbing a spot across the street and walking over tends to be the easier move. The setting suits those who don’t mind a quieter, somewhat utilitarian vibe in exchange for authentic dishes that clearly attract repeat visits from locals looking for solid Vietnamese meals at a reasonable price.

  • Best for: Casual diners wanting authentic Vietnamese soups and rice dishes at lunch or dinner.
  • Who will enjoy it: Fans of traditional, unpretentious Vietnamese flavors and quick service, regulars who value consistency and affordability.
  • Best time to visit: Midday or early evening to avoid any parking hassle and catch the freshest food.
  • Atmosphere: Simple, cozy, accessible, with a focus on the food rather than décor.

I come here for lunch all the time. Their prices are actually reallly hard to beat these days. I’ve had their Bun Rieu, Bun Rieu Oc, Bun Thit Nuong, Bun Bo Hue, Bun Cha Gio. Alll of it is good! Flavors are right. The fresh bean sprouts and veggies abundant. The Bun Rieu is the best here though. There is a 3 or 4% credit card fee so its good to have cash here! Theres also a togo food section but I feel like it is not as good as the noodle soup dishes. I’ve gotten spring rolls catered here as well. Small family owned restaurant and super sweet staff. I love that its super quiet here on my lunch breaks.

A true hidden gem that consistently delivers amazing, affordable food! It had been a little while since my last visit, but a serious craving for Bun Bo Hue brought me back. And as always, the owner came through with fantastic customer service – that personal touch really makes a difference. Beyond the delicious food and great service, I had a somewhat unexpected observation that speaks volumes about this place. I needed to use the restroom, which is located in the back. I'd never ventured back there before, but I was genuinely impressed: it was hella clean and incredibly organized. You know what they say – the state of the restroom can often tell you a lot about the rest of the restaurant's hygiene and attention to detail. This spot clearly cares! Now, back to the food. My Bun Bo Hue craving was more than satisfied – the soup was absolutely delicious, packed with flavor. My partner opted for the Vermicelli with Grilled Meat, a fantastic choice, and even got a side of their Pho broth (which was also damn good, by the way!). And you absolutely cannot leave without trying the Egg Rolls – they're a definite must-try!

Hidden authentic Vietnamese joint. Their eggrolls are only $0.80. The owner is very sweet and puts so much beef in pho. 10/10 recommended.

The PHO was on point but The Wor won ton was out of this world. It was the noodles that got me. I will be returning. There customer service is great. Enough space for wheelchair. Parking lot is a bit small, but shouldn’t be a hassle. A must try if you are near by. Map it.

This little hole-in-the-wall Vietnamese restaurant is off the charts damn good. Not over salted food like most Restaurants tend to do. Parking could be a challenge, so park across the street and walk. One of the best I've had, and right in Tustin.
